New visitor facilities opened at Dundreggan

On 22nd May 2011, we held a special event at Dundreggan to open the new visitor facilities and footpaths there, which have been funded by a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and several grant-giving trusts.

Waymarker posts like this beside the footpaths have swing arms that contain information about the features that visitors will encounter along the way.

The waymarker posts are colour-coded for the different walks on the estate - this one is on the Juniper walk, near the car park, and shows the different growth forms that juniper can take.

The all-ability trail leads to this beautiful cascading waterfall in the woodland, where there is a custom-designed bench for visitors to relax and enjoy the view.

This specially-designed picnic table and benches near the car park has been made in the shape of the leaves of dwarf birch, a species that is very common on the higher ground in the northern part of Dundreggan.

One of the footpaths leads to the estate's boar enclosure, where we're utilising wild boar to reduce the prevalence of bracken and encourage the natural regeneration of trees.
