Allt Beithe Garbh
Practical results of our work
Allt Beithe Garbh is a 9.5 hectare exclosure that was erected in 1995 on the National Trust for Scotland's West Affric Estate, in the first phase of the forest restoration programme we carried out there. The area was protected to facilitate the natural regeneration of the birch, rowan and eared willow trees that still survived there, clinging on to the side of the Allt Beithe Garbh stream.

completion.
Alan Watson Featherstone at the bottom end of the Allt Beithe Garbh exclosure in early July 2008. Note the healthy growth of
naturally-regenerating rowans and eared willows across the burn, behind Alan. (The watergate visible on the right had not yet been
fitted when the 1995 photo was taken.)
Another view of the regenerating rowans and eared willows in the Allt Beithe Garbh exclosure. Note the contrast with the lack
of any tree regeneration at all outside the fence. |
