Wood sculpture

This beautiful wood sculpture was made by Ron Parker, who lives at Dunphail in Moray. Made from the naturally-occurring burl of an elm tree, it depicts two trees growing beside each other, with their branches intertwined. At its base a couple are standing together, looking at the trees – a very appropriate motif for Valentine’s Day and the theme of this promotion! (NB the human figures are made from sycamore.)

The sculpture measures 50 cm. tall, 28 cm. wide and 19 cm deep (approx. 20 inches by 11 inches by 7.5 inches). This is a unique, high quality work of art, as no two of Ron’s sculptures are the same.

Originally, from Yorkshire, Ron has been a sculptor in wood for over 40 years and has taken part in many exhibitions – his work can be found in collections worldwide. He takes his inspiration from birds, animals, human figures, trees themselves, and from the coast, mountains and moorlands of Moray.

This sculpture was the first prize in the "Why I Love Pine" competition, won by Albert Peace:
Whilst a single scots pine silhouetted against the sky, is a glorious and uplifting sight. Walking in a forest of pine is a treat for all the senses. The soft needle carpet under foot, the unmistakable aroma, the lichen covered bark. With its subdued sound quality, it is like entering another world, a gentle, timeless world, evoking memories of a steadier pace of life, a life more in tune with nature. Inspiring, calming, vital and yet restful, one emerges reluctantly but restored.
