The Grove for:

Californians for Caledonia!

We, California's Children of the Scottish Diaspora, dedicate these trees to the people of Scotland.

11% of the 4.9 million Americans reporting Scottish ancestry in the 2000 United States Census reside in California.

These Scots-Americans' Scottish heritage and culture are reflected in the many Scottish organizations that exist throughout the state as well as in California place names such as Inverness, Albany, Glendale, Irvine, Ben Lomond, Loch Lomond, Bonnie Doon, Highland Park, Glenwood, and Glencoe.

Famous California-Scots include John Muir, environmentalist; David Douglas, botanist and discoverer of the Douglas fir in the Pacific Northwest; David Jacks, the popularizer of Monterey Jack, one of America's favorite cheeses; Robert Louis Stevenson, author of Treasure Island and Kidnapped and Alexander Forbes, merchant, explorer and author of California: A History of Upper and Lower California.

And as of 1998 California even has its own Official California State Tartan #TS2454!

Our hope is that these wee trees will help to bring back the forests of our ancestors, so that all of our children's children may experience the magnificence that was once Caledonia.
