Spring flowers in Glen Affric

In April and early May a colourful profusion of flowers carpets the forest floor, particularly in the birchwoods, where many plants blossom before the new leaves on the trees open fully and shade the ground.

Corymbs or flower clusters of rowan trees (Sorbus aucuparia) in spring, beside cascades on the Allt na Imrich stream.

The delicate flowers of wood sorrel (Oxalis acetosella) often have their petals hanging downwards and partially closed, but when they are fully open the lilac-coloured veins are visible.

Bluebell (Hyacinthoides non-scripta), near Badger Falls.

Primroses (Primula vulgaris) and dog violets (Viola riviniana) are amongst the first flowers to appear in the spring.
