Dates & Booking, 2012

If you would like to volunteer in one or more of these Conservation Holidays, please:

  • Read the booking notes below,
  • Select the week(s) you would like to attend by checking the box to the right of that week,
  • Select your payment rate by selecting an option at the foot of the table of Conservation Holidays,
  • Click the "Continue" button to proceed with your application on our secure server.

The form is sent via a secure server so you can fill in the form with your credit card details on screen and send it to us directly on the Internet. Alternatively, if you prefer to pay by cheque (in Pounds Sterling), you can post your cheque and Conservation Holiday details to: Trees for Life, Conservation Holidays, 272 Pineridge, The Park, Findhorn Bay, Forres, Moray IV36 3TZ, Scotland.

If you’re booking by post or online close to the Conservation Holiday date, please phone us to check that there are places available.

Full payment must accompany your booking. We will send you a confirmation letter or email. Please await confirmation of your Conservation Holiday place before making travel or holiday arrangements.

Unwaged Volunteers

We welcome volunteers who can't afford to pay the regular price of £150. If you are unwaged, a student or retired you will be contacted by the office before your booking is processed and asked to confirm your unwaged status.

Scottish and London volunteers

People Making Waves are offering bursaries of £100 for volunteers from Scotland and £500 for volunteers from London, which can be used to help cover the cost of our Conservation Holidays, including travelling expenses up to Inverness. Bursaries are available until the end 2012, but may run out before then, so don't delay! Visit their website here for more details.

Group bookings

It is possible to book an entire Conservation Holiday exclusively for yourself and nine friends or colleagues. Please contact the office as soon as possible to discuss the options for this, and the additional terms and conditions that apply.

Overseas Volunteers

Unfortunately the recent immigration restrictions that have been imposed by the UK Border Agency mean that we are unable to accept volunteers without EU or EEA passports.

Full Conservation Holidays; 'Keep me posted'

Spaces sometimes become available again on weeks that have previously been booked up.

If you are interested in a Conservation Holiday currently marked as 'full', please use the 'Keep me posted' link to email us and let us know to tell you if a space becomes free on that week. Please do not change the title of the email as otherwise we won't know which week you are interested in, and please do tell us your name!

Conservation Holiday Enquiries

For all Conservation Holiday enquiries call 01309 691444 (local) or 0845 6027386 (national) or email rosie@treesforlife.org.uk.

Booking Notes

Please read the booking terms and conditions below.

The cost

It costs Trees for Life over £3,000 to run each week! Our fund-raising covers some of the costs, but the contributions that volunteers make are vital. We have a sliding scale fee structure (see booking form) in place in order to make these weeks available to everyone. If you’re able to pay more than the specified amount, we’d be very grateful. There is also an option of paying the full cost of an unsubsidised place on a week, which is £300.

Insurance

Volunteers are covered for public liability and limited personal accident cover. Our insurance does not cover your personal belongings nor cover your free time activities.

Booking Terms & Conditions

The vast majority of our volunteers feel inspired by their Conservation Holiday and give very positive feedback. In order to continue to provide this level of experience we ask you to agree to these terms and conditions. This will ensure that we can operate efficiently and safely in everyone's interest.

  1. Conservation Holiday participants must be 18 or over.
  2. Cancellations or transfers made 6 weeks or more before the Conservation Holiday start date will receive a full refund minus a £10 administration charge. Cancellations or transfers made between 6 and 4 weeks before the start date will receive a 50% refund minus a £10 administration charge. Transfers or refunds cannot usually be given for any cancellations made within 4 weeks of the start date. As there are only ten places available on each week it is very important that we are notified of any cancellation or change in your booking as soon as possible, as we may be able to fill your place. If you pull out of the week without notifying us, the group’s work will be affected by your absence and there will be financial implications for us.
  3. We need to know if you have any medical condition, whether you are taking medication, have any mental health issues, mental or physical disabilities, or have any previous injuries which may affect your ability to work. We may contact you to discuss this. Details are held in the strictest confidence. Please fill out the relevant section on the booking form and inform the office of any changes that occur in the period leading up to your Conservation Holiday. The vast majority of people can be accommodated.
  4. Due to online, phone and postal booking methods running simultaneously, please await confirmation of your booking before making any other arrangements. We do our very best to keep the website updated but Conservation Holidays could be full by the time out of office hours bookings are processed.
  5. Please commit to the entire week, which runs from Saturday to Saturday. We have essential introductory briefings on the first day and a planned schedule of work for the week. If you arrive late or leave early it is very difficult for us to achieve our goals.
  6. You can do as many Conservation Holidays as you like but we don’t accept bookings for more than 2 consecutive weeks. This is due to the nature of the physical work you will be involved in, as well as group dynamics. We may contact you to discuss consecutive bookings.
  7. Trees for Life accepts block bookings. If you would like to book more than one place on a week please call the office to make the booking as each person must complete an individual application. Group bookings of more than 4 people must be agreed with the office before a booking can be confirmed.
  8. Please make sure we have a mobile phone number for you, in case we need to contact you at the time of your travel with any essential information. Also, please provide a next of kin or close friend’s contact details in case of emergency.
  9. Although every effort is made to describe the details of each week accurately in our literature, it is occasionally necessary for Trees for Life to make changes at short notice to the work and accommodation. If you have any questions please contact us. Rarely, weeks are cancelled due to low numbers or factors outside of our control. In such cases we will try to let you know beforehand and offer an alternative week or full refund.
  10. Non UK residents are welcome provided that you speak enough English to understand instructions and safety information. Non-EU volunteers are not able to sign up for Conservation Holidays due to current immigration restrictions.
  11. Volunteers should act responsibly in both group and social settings throughout the week as you will be acting as representatives for Trees for Life. Recreational drugs are illegal and any use during the Conservation Holiday will not be tolerated. If alcohol is consumed we request that it is done in a responsible manner so as to not affect group or work dynamics.
  12. We reserve the right to refuse applications for Conservation Holidays or to ask a volunteer to leave if his/her behaviour is affecting the safety or general performance of the team. Volunteers may be responsible for any costs incurred through negligence.
  13. In the unlikely event of you having cause for complaint, you should first tell the Conservation Holiday leader. If the problem remains unresolved you should write to Trees for Life within 14 days of the end of the week and we will investigate further.
  14. Sorry but we cannot allow dogs on Conservation Holidays.
  15. Data Protection Act 1998: By agreeing to these terms and conditions you are giving your consent for TFL to process any personal data that you provide.
