Alan Watson Featherstone, Trees for Life founder and Executive Director, accepted the accolade from Ben Goedegebuure, Sales Director of the SECC, at the charity’s Dundreggan Estate in Glen Moriston, Inverness-shire on March 12th 2010.
The award, part of the SECC’s 25th anniversary celebrations, acknowledges the more than 68,000 trees planted on its behalf by Trees for Life in the Caledonian Forest in the Scottish Highlands.
The SECC has worked with Trees for Life for the past three years, planting groves for events booked
at the Glasgow-based venue. This is part of a scheme through which individuals and companies can fund specially-dedicated trees and groves through Trees for Life.
Alan Watson Featherstone, Trees for Life Executive Director, said: “I am delighted to accept this
award on behalf of Trees for Life. The SECC is one of our best corporate supporters, having made generous contributions both towards our purchase of the 10,000 acre Dundreggan Estate and now
for planting trees there.”
Ben Goedegebuure said: “We’re really proud of our green credentials. It gives us the chance to
balance any negative effects our events have on the environment. Everyone at the SECC is
incredibly proud of the massive contribution our venue has made to Trees for Life.”
The ‘Champion’ accolade is the latest in a series of awards that the charity has received, including
UK Conservation Project of the Year in 1991 and Top 10 Conservation Holidays Worldwide in 2009.
Trees for Life is working to restore the Caledonian Forest, of which only one per cent currently survives, to a large area in the Highlands, west of Inverness. For more information about the
charity, see www.treesforlife.org.uk or call 0845 458 3505.
The SECC is announcing 25 Champions throughout its 25th anniversary celebrations, recognising people and organisations that have contributed to the success of the venue.
