Epic Cycle Ride Boost for Scottish Forest

Trees for Life’s work to restore Scotland’s Caledonian Forest is set to receive a boost thanks to Adam Druett from Lechlade in Gloucestershire, who has set himself the challenge of realising a lifetime ambition by cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats.
Adam Druett is aiming to finish the 1,000 mile ride in 10 days during August and September, raising funds for award-winning conservation charity Trees for Life and Bristol-based Sustrans, the leading sustainable transport charity.
Adam says he has set himself the 10 day target because “it sounds better than 11 days and to keep the maths nice and simple”. He is currently improving his bike maintenance skills and plans to work towards the 100 mile a day average during a three-month training period beginning in May.
“Many of my friends think I’m mad to take this challenge on, but I am excited and raring to go. It’s for two great causes, and I will be doing what I love. Ever since I was 16, cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats has been a lifetime ambition.”

Today only one per cent of the Caledonian Forest survives, but every new tree is helping to bring it back – and support like this makes a massive difference.”
During April, Adam will also be joining Trees for Life’s Conservation Volunteer Weeks in the Highlands.
“I have taken part in Trees for Life’s volunteer weeks before and would recommend them to anybody as an inspiring holiday with a difference, especially in the current economic climate. Each time I’ve finished a week’s work in the Highlands I’ve felt refreshed and revitalised.”
The Trees for Life’s volunteer weeks were selected in February 2009 as one of the Top 10 Conservation Holidays in the world by BBC Wildlife Magazine.
The weeks are held during the spring and autumn, and allow people to make a personal, positive difference to the environment while meeting new people. They suit all abilities and anyone over 18 years old can take part.
People can also help Trees for Life to restore it through tree dedications and Groves to celebrate special occasions.
