Award-winning conservation charity Trees for Life today thanked TreeTwist for its latest donation of almost £1,000 towards its work of restoring one of the UK’s most stunning forests.

The money was raised through sales of TreeTwists - woollen scarves, bracelets and clips handmade in the Shetland and Orkney Islands by Tait & Style. For every TreeTwist sold a donation is made to Trees for Life for a tree to be planted in the Caledonian Forest.
Alan Watson Featherstone, Trees for Life Founder and Executive Director, said: “We are very grateful to TreeTwist for their generosity. This latest donation brings the total they have raised for us since their scheme began in early 2007 to almost £4,500. This kind of support makes a huge difference to our work in reversing deforestation and biodiversity loss, and in tackling climate change.”
Sez Maxted of TreeTwist said: “We are extremely proud to be working with Trees for Life. Our aim via TreeTwist is to make tree planting fun by giving the customer a reminder of their tree, which can be worn and enjoyed every day. Through our work with a terrific, supportive Trees for Life team, that vision has become a reality."
The Caledonian Forest originally covered much of the Scottish Highlands, with native pinewoods in a wild landscape of mountains, lochs and rivers. Today, following centuries of overgrazing and timber production, only 1 per cent survives. Trees for Life aims to restore the forest to an area of 1,500 square kilometres in the Highlands west of Inverness.
Through Trees for Life, individuals and companies can have trees or groves planted for themselves or as gifts – helping to create a fantastic habitat for wildlife and people as well as being a simple, positive step in the fight against climate change.
People and companies wanting to make a positive, personal difference to the environment while enjoying an inspiring visit to the wild Highlands can also join Conservation Volunteer Weeks. These suit all abilities and anyone over 18 years old can take part.
