Jobs available at Trees for Life
CONSERVATION PROGRAMME ASSISTANT (Volunteer position)
Trees for Life is an award-winning charity working to restore the native Caledonian Forest. Our vision is to restore Scotland’s ancient Caledonian Forest to a spectacular wilderness region of 1,000 square miles of mountains and glens to the west of Inverness and Loch Ness. The Caledonian Forest once covered a large part of the Highlands. It was Scotland’s equivalent of the rainforest, but has been reduced to just a tiny fraction of its former range. The majority of our conservation work is carried out by volunteers. The Trees for Life volunteer programme has around 350 volunteers working with us each year across 10 different locations in the Highlands.
Trees for Life’s volunteer programme is looking for an assistant to support us in our office in Findhorn for 1 day per week. This role is a good opportunity for someone with an interest in conservation to use their office based skills to support the restoration of the Caledonian Forest.
The programme assistant will support our general office tasks, including the collation of data, including volunteer feedback forms and conservation work records; maintain tools and equipment and provide logistical support to the volunteer programme. There would also be opportunities to join our practical conservation days if interested.
Specific Skills and Experience Required: Familiarity with Excel and Word and a willingness to learn other computer based skills; ability to drive a minibus (D1 license) would be an advantage.
You would be asked to contribute 4-7 hours per week, minimum commitment 3 months.

VOLUNTEER TREE PLANTING TEAM
Trees for Life is expanding the Long Term Volunteer Programme and is providing opportunities for enthusiastic individuals to gain experience in practical conservation work at our Dundreggan Estate as part of our tree planting team. Dundreggan is a 4000 Ha estate set in stunning scenery close to the Great Glen 35 mile SW of Inverness.
As part of a team of volunteers you will work on a range of innovative conservation projects with a focus on native woodland establishment and regeneration. Tasks will include working on our expanding tree nursery, tree planting, fertilising, felling and ring barking non-native trees. There will also be opportunities to work alongside our regular residential groups as well as other day volunteers.
We are offering placements for one to three months from March – October 2014. We will provide accommodation and a weekly food allowance along with relevant training. Volunteers will need to be fit and hardy for more extreme terrain as there are long walks to planting sites. Volunteers will be required to work for five days each week and may be asked to work at weekends.
Please return completed application forms to Kirsty Ellen at firstname.lastname@example.org or call or email for further details (01309 691292).
